Listening through the Word

Week 3, Day 1

This week, we will be listening to God, the Father. Can we listen to the Father without going to His Word?

As we listen to and for the voice of God, let us remember the following truths:
Isaiah 40:8 (NIV)
8 The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.

2 Peter 1:20-21 (NIV)
20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

He longs to instruct us, if we will listen...
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV)
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Psalm 85:8 (ESV)
Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints;
but let them not turn back to folly.

For today, listening to the Word, choose one of the above verses (or a different verse of your choice) and write it out three times. Here are a variety of ideas for the three ways you can write it out:
1) Write it on a notecard and put it in your purse, car, or bathroom—a place you will see it and listen to the Father through His Word.
2) Draw your interpretation of the verse.
3) Look up another version of the verse and write it out.
4) Insert your own name into the verse as a prayer.
5) Put it to music.
6) Feel free to come up with your own idea!

We would love to hear from you! Please share with us what you are hearing and how you are growing in your devotion to listening.
