CtL cover 200Week 2: Listening to the Creator

Hearing the Creator through His Ultimate Creation

Week 2, Day 2

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1). And throughout the following five days, the Creator
created the marvelous and wondrous things we reflected on yesterday. Every aspect of creation proclaims His glory. And we are no exception.
The Creator saved the best two creations for last when He made man out of the dust of the ground, breathing life into Him, then formed woman from a rib taken out of man (Gen. 1:26-27, 31; 2:18-25). The intricacies of the human body are a marvel. They definitively affirm the design of a creator. Where we differ from animals, and the most fascinating facet of all, is our minds—how our brains form, learn language, communicate, think, process, problem-solve, desire, dream, and perform daily functions.

The psalmist said in Psalm 139:13-16 (ESV):
13 For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.

A contemplation of the marvels of the human body speaks to the wonder of our Creator. But our very words can also be a vessel used by Him to proclaim His glory and share His message. Consider the following verses as they present an opportunity for us to serve as the voice of God to others who are listening.

Ephesians 5:19-20 (NIV)
19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Mark 16:15 (ESV)
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”

Ephesians 4:15-16 (ESV)
15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

What is the Creator saying to you today through these verses?

Are you willing to be His vessel to allow someone else to hear Him? And are you open to hearing His voice through someone else?

One final reflection for additional study and listening: How do we discern whether what someone else is saying is from God or not? (Acts 17:11; 1 John 4:1-6)

Additional notes, drawings and thoughts from listening to the Creator today:
