Week 1: Listening to the Good Shepherd

Week 1, Day 2

What the Good Shepherd Wants to Say

Yesterday, we introduced the importance of knowing the voice of the Good Shepherd. But how can we hear His voice? And even if we hear it, are we listening?
Psalm 23 illustrates the heart of the Good Shepherd as com-forter, guide, protector, and provider.

Read Psalm 23 (ESV) below and underline the portions of this psalm that most speak to your heart today. Read it more than one time and in more than one version.

There are several songs written directly from this psalm. Find a songbook, a YouTube® video or another way to listen to and sing along with a song from this psalm today.
We are listening carefully to the voice of the Good Shepherd through scripture and through song. And may His words of
comfort go with you throughout your day.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
