yoke restA good night’s sleep can cure many ills. A power nap can revive someone to be able to fulfill the day’s responsibilities.
In college, we talked about our all-nighters with pride. And the other day, I heard a grown man boast of pulling an “all-day-er,” highlighting the arduous task of making it through the day.
We are constantly tired. Busyness is seen as a sign of importance. And rest gets pushed down among the lowest priority tasks.

But God gave us His example and rested on the seventh day. And He promises rest to those who come to Him and walk, working to keep in step with Him (Matt. 11:28-30).
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Come to Him. And take His yoke.
When I am tired, I don’t want to put one more thing on my list, or have one more weight on my shoulders, but the weight of a yoke is different when yoked with the Son.
The yoke is used to keep two bulls in line, working together to share the burden of the task at hand.
The Redeemer keeps me in line while helping me put one foot in front of the other. He carries my burden in a way that makes it bearable. And as He lightens my load, my spirit is able to rest, to take a breath, breathing deeply of true life.
