There are some things I know with certainty. I have my dad’s legs. I have my mom’s smile. I am the oldest of four girls. And red is better than pink.
You may argue with me on the last point, but I know what is true for me. “What is true for me...” The relative nature of truth has become a challenge in our churches and our personal lives.
In David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyon’s book Good Faith, they discuss the ways in which society finds biblical truths irrelevant and extreme. This book was being discussed in a Bible class at Downtown Church of Christ, in Searcy, Arkansas. A number of my friends have attended that class, which has sparked some good discussion about the truths we do and don’t believe, as well as how to stand by and communicate those truths in love.
In our discussions, I was inspired and challenged. I also felt affirmed to realize that God led me to write Who Has the Last Word? Cutting through Satan’s Lies with the Truth of God’s Word. I am honored to share the power of God’s truth with other women.
We can know truth, not merely words of truth, or the Author of Truth, but Truth embodied as Jesus says that He is the way, the truth, and the life in John 14:6.
When we know His Truth, the absolute nature of truth cuts through the relative distortions of the things that truly matter.
When tempted, Jesus left Satan without any other argument when he was presented with the truth from Scripture (Matt. 4, Luke 4). Like Christ, we can come to Recognize the Lie, Replace the Lie with Truth, and Remember the Truth—all more completely accomplished when we Know His Truth.
If you are interested in embracing the truth in more aspects of your life, I encourage you to order a copy of Who Has the Last Word? and study it with a small group of women. There is still time to start the study together this month and encourage each other on the journey toward truth.
