The holiday stress and increase in activities has slowed, yet quiet moments can still be hard to come by. The college student hears questions of what she is going to do with her future. The new wife worries about the echo that still rings in her ears from the in-laws comments regarding different holiday traditions and customs. The mother of toddlers has forgotten the meaning of quiet altogether. And the empty nester wishes her house were a little noisier again.
Whether you have a quiet house or a busy house this week, may God grant you a quiet spirit (1 Pet. 3:4). The beauty of that peace comes from within no matter what chaos swirls around. However, for me, the more challenging quiet to obtain is the one in my own mind.
My thoughts, stresses, confusion, and doubts threaten to overshadow the peace that God provides. And as my personal study is directed toward a focus on “listening,” I am seeking to quiet all the noise in my mind and turn my attention to the still small voice that Elijah heard outside the cave (1 Kings 19:12-13).
Called to Listen is the theme for our Destination Retreat, September 15-17. We would love for you to join us for that event, but also as we challenge ourselves to listen in various ways over the course of this next year.
The more we listen, the more in tune we are with God’s Spirit and the needs of those around us, and the more His peace can quiet our souls.
