Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness...” (emphasis added)
God himself is the definition of relationship: three in one. We cannot live in isolation, even if you are an extreme introvert.
Last year, I asked the following questions over the phone and via Facebook. Since they still apply, I will share some of the answers I received.
What does community look like?
“They encourage and care for one another. Respect each other's needs and boundaries, cooperate and love one another in good times and not so good times. They have an invested interest in one another,” Darla Leehans
“Teamwork. To put it simply,” Kristin Lee
“Sharing your life with a group of people who share a common goal/purpose,” Jacquee Wilson
“A fellowship of people who feel safe with one another. People who serve, love and care for each other,” Linda Murphy
“Living life together through the good stuff, bad stuff, and every day normal stuff,” Ginger McBride
“Our small group. Or our workout group at the Y,” Mark Wuest
“Community is where you feel at home, where you feel like you belong, and where you're not afraid to be yourself,” Tekisha Brown
And how does community respond when you are in need?
“We feel like we have do a gourmet meal to help someone out. A rotisserie chicken, jar of applesauce, and bottle of coke will feed my family.” ~young mom
“Come sit with my kid for an hour so I can take a nap.” ~mother of a toddler
What do you think?
How can you be community to someone today?
