As Christians, we have a special community with which we can actively communicate. We recognize the blessing of gathering with other Christians around the world, even if we have never met.
Another community, within the community of Christians, is those with whom we have shared in the same congregation, school, university, or institute.
Seventeen years ago, I graduated from Harding University. I consider myself a part of the Harding community, and now, living in Searcy, I have become reconnected with many in that community.
Thankfully, it is not a closed community. There are many activities and conferences that are open to the public and welcoming to others. For example, this week, there is a large community of Christians that gather on the campus for the Harding Lectureship. Throughout the Lectureship, participates are able to take advantage of the knowledge of Harding professors and other invited speakers, as well as enjoy the fellowship with other Christians.
This year’s theme is Holy, Holy, Holy. There are special classes offered for different interest groups. Today, for example, there is a special program for women.
Wednesday, at 10am and 11am, I will be teaching two classes about the needs of the Hispanic community and how our English-speaking sisters can help form a deeper bond with that community. We are one in Christ and I hope to provide some tools that can help facilitate that union and fellowship with the Father.
