I love this picture of a broken pot. I don’t know where I found it or whom to credit with its artistic and spiritual representations that have come to mean so much to me.
2 Corinthians 4:5-9 says, “5 For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”
The pot pictured here is a simple jar of clay—fragile and broken—just like me. But God’s light shines brightest through the broken places, and it is in those very aspects of our lives that we can claim victory.
This victory is not in spite of our brokenness, or after our brokenness, but rather through our brokenness. We are mere vessels of the treasure of knowledge of God’s glory—a light that brings hope and promise in the midst of pressure, stress, and persecution.
Thankfully, we are reminded that this all-surpassing power is from God, and not from us—the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work within us to bring victory through brokenness. What a joyful reminder to celebrate with you today!
