What does it mean to delight in something? Delight usually has a sensory element—something we enjoy with one of our five senses. We delight in a delicious plate of food, a beautiful panorama in creation, a sweet-smelling flower, a well-played piece of music, or a loving touch.
But what does it mean to delight yourself in the Lord? Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart."
Can you delight yourself in something you don't take the time to appreciate?
I encourage you to take the time to appreciate who God is and to delight in Him. Don't focus on what He has done, amazing as that is. Don't focus on the blessings He has given you, many as they may be. Focus on who He is: Father, Creator, Redeemer, Sovereign God, and so much more!
One way I have developed this practice is to use the alphabet. I delight in Him as
A—Awesome, Alpha & Omega
B—Big! (big enough to handle it all)
C—Creator, Caring, Conqueror
D—Divine,
E—Eternal
F—Faithful, Father
What can you add to the list? How would you fill in the rest of the alphabet?
