More than three years have passed, awaiting this three-week trip to Brazil. God knew the best timing and the right people with whom to connect while there.

Our Brazil Coordinator, Beliza, did a fantastic job of arranging our logistics. Everything went smoothly (except for that one Airbnb adventure, haha), and more importantly, we were able to meet with the right people in the right places to establish ourselves as a women’s ministry resource, now in Portuguese.

Beliza and I were blessed and exhausted by all God did through and in us during the trip, yet we were both ready to get home to our own beds. After that much concentrated time together, our friendship, sisterhood, passion as co-laborers in the Kingdom, and depth of connection with God and with each other grew significantly. Many even asked if Beliza was my daughter!

When we presented Ministério Irmã Rosa de Ferro (MIRF) at the NE Brazil ladies’ retreat with 230 women, Beliza allowed me to begin in Portuguese. The “joy of the Lord” communicated across any language barriers. And Beliza was patient when I kept switching to Spanish when we had planned for her to translate me from English! Thankfully, we had already planned for her to take over the primary portion of the presentation in Portuguese, thus establishing her as our Brazil Coordinator and local representative.

No matter where we presented MIRF, we mirrored each other’s excitement… to comical extremes that provided highlight reels or GIFs of “How we present MIRF in Brazil”! Not surprisingly, everyone’s response was equally enthusiastic.

It was Beliza’s first time to experience a large group of women’s responses to us. I had warned her that after our presentation, we would likely get swarmed by women wanting to purchase a copy of the book and find out how they could get involved. The women did not disappoint. They affirmed their spiritual hunger!

Sister after sister shared how inspired she was to hear that there was a women’s ministry like this—now in their country! They were deeply encouraged that we recognized the need for equipping, encouraging, and empowering women to connect to God and one another more deeply in Portuguese. Since we were new to almost everyone, we coined a phrase that helped clarify things in new cultural context: We are a women’s ministry, not a women’s movement.

Men and women nodded along as we explained how God had called us to answer the need for resources and encouragement for women of all ages and backgrounds—now in our third language. We reiterated our vision through the new Portuguese brochures, bookmarks, and pens. Yet, the most treasured item we shared was our first Brazilian Portuguese interactive Bible study book, Chamada a Escutar!

Leylane, Publishing Coordinator at EBNESR, had gone above and beyond to get the books to us before the NE ladies’ retreat. When her husband walked out of the post office with the box of books, she sent Beliza a text thanking God for the “series of miracles” that made it possible, along with the quote, “We are the champions!”

You are Kingdom champions along with us through your prayers! On behalf of nearly 50 women who already purchased Called to Listen in their own language, THANK YOU! I barely contained my tears as I witnessed women sitting down immediately to begin their study. And when they spread the word to others, thanking me for specific things they had already heard, or introducing me to women with whom they had already agreed to study at home... my heart overflowed with joy and gratefulness.

Ten years ago, when Iron Rose Sister Ministries began, we knew that Portuguese would be our third language. My eyes water again, recalling God’s faithfulness as we expand further across the Americas. I’m speechless and eternally grateful to witness the launch of the ministry in Brazil.
